FAB FEST ’17 International Fabrication Festival

FAB FEST International Fabrication Festival is a week-long celebration of design and making, featuring over 50 pavilions built by students of architecture from across the UK and around the world. The theme for this year’s edition is ‘Pop-up City’, and the festival will also feature the launch of the first performance of the Architectural Robotics Theatre.

Teams will have three months to develop, test and fabricate their designs, before assembling and installing their pavilion in Ambika P3, Westminster’s Central London exhibition venue. They will have access to the cutting-edge digital fabrication facilities of the fABE Fabrication Lab, including cnc knives, routers, lasers and robot arms. Teams will have a Mentor to guide them, from academia or professional practice, and a Digital Fabrication Liaison assigned from the Lab staff to help them get the most from the CNC machines. Support for the projects will also be given through a series of workshops and webinars to help teams develop and present their designs, as well as learning how to use Arduinos, DMX and other digital and interactive technologies to enhance their pavilions.
The project culminates in the festival week with pavilion construction by day, and events each evening, including an exclusive screening in the Regent Street Cinema of a FAB Film. FAB FEST ends with a two-day party and exhibition open to the Public and live streamed on the Internet on the 8th & 9th of July, with music, food, festivities and prizes awarded for the winning teams.
